October 16th is a glorious moment in the annals of the history of a community with a shared future for mankind! The perfect ascension of Shenzhou 13 demonstrates the new outstanding contribution of the peace-loving and development-loving Chinese nation to the international community. The three elites of the Chinese nation have won a lot of pride for the Chinese people in the world. And in Shanghai, the birthplace of the party, a group of textile people proudly told me: The space suits worn by Chinese astronauts are completely made by Shanghai!
The plan I know about Shanghai's preparation for the development of clothing for astronauts (it was not called planning at the time) was on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the party in 1991. Shanghai's industrial and technological circles showed their ambitions. Later, due to the huge cost of spacesuit development and trial production, how to invest more economically and even seek market-derived benefits became a topic that the Shanghai government had to consider. So the economists of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences also invested in research. At that time, my father Wang Zhihua was a senior engineer at the Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his director was a well-known brain scientist Academician Yang Xiongli. They are also studying the physiological reactions of astronauts after entering space, with the goal of ensuring their safety.
On July 16, 2019, local time, Washington, USA, on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit was exhibited at the National Air and Space Museum
Academician Yang Xiongli once told me: In a vacuum environment, the nitrogen contained in human blood will turn into gas and expand the volume; if you don’t wear a pressurized and airtight spacesuit, it will cause aerospace due to the large pressure difference between the body and the outside. The life of the staff is in danger. I remember my father also told me that spacesuits are multi-functional garments developed on the basis of pilot airtight suits; they need to deal with the physiological hazards of space environment factors such as vacuum, high and low temperatures, solar radiation, and micrometeors to astronauts. Space suits need to be independently developed and produced by China, because there is no possibility of international technology transfer. In the US-led technical blockade against China that year, the space technical blockade, including spacesuits, ranked first. Although Russia and France have limited cooperation with China in this century, the asking prices are particularly shocking.
With the launch of Shenzhou 5 to the thirteenth, all countries in the world finally understand that China is a natural space power. At the same time, the space suit, which was named the space suit, became the national pride of Shanghai, the cradle of Chinese textiles. Among them, Donghua University, the first textile college in New China, has made outstanding contributions. I lived near its Zhongshan West Road campus in Shanghai when I was in junior high school; it was called East China Textile Institute at that time and was once renamed China Textile University. As it takes off on the 13th, it happens to be the 70th birthday of Donghua University; there is no better surprise than this.
The relevant departments of the Shanghai Municipal Government said: Spacesuits are typical high-tech products. From solving the problem of outer protective materials of extravehicular spacesuits to developing and designing series of special clothing for astronauts, the scientific research team of Donghua University has participated in the development of every generation of spacesuits. design. For example, at the beginning of this century, a joint research group composed of nine disciplines of Donghua University solved the bottleneck problem of extravehicular spacesuit manufacturing technology-coating of extravehicular spacesuits. This coating is compared to armor by experts in the R&D team. It is softer than leather, thinner than lenses, and lighter than a mobile phone, but it can protect the safety of astronauts in space like armor. Of course, this core technology does not have any materials and objects for reference. However, with the full support of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Ministry of Education, the R&D team has completed a masterpiece: high-tech materials with properties such as chemical resistance, wear resistance, tear resistance, thermal radiation resistance, micro-meteor resistance, and ion radiation resistance. And achieved new breakthroughs in indicators such as high temperature resistance and radiation resistance; soon it was put into space combat.
Nowadays, the Donghua University team has participated in the research and development and design of special clothing for astronauts. There are already more than 30 varieties in series. It is understood that some of them can help astronauts fight against the adverse effects of weightlessness on human muscles during long-term space flights; some can even care for the astronauts’ emotions and moods. At the same time, the design also took into account the relevant details such as photography, video recording and display effect after graphic image transmission under the light environment in the cabin; out of the love of Chinese culture, under the condition of practicality first, the Chinese The aesthetic configuration of cultural elements. It is worth pointing out that in addition to clothing, the space home shoes that astronauts cannot do without also have the active participation of researchers from Donghua University. Its brand-new material configuration and exquisite design ensure the comfort and safety of the feet of the astronauts during work and activities in the spacecraft cabin and the space station under the weightless environment.
What’s interesting is that considering the difference in the wear of male and female astronauts, in the latest suit of Shenzhou 13 there are new varieties of clothing accessories ranging from scarves, ties to silk scarves. Therefore, the pride of Peking University and the heroine Wang Yaping that people see through live TV is so heroic, so energetic, and such a great country style! I believe that more and more girls will follow Wang Yaping's example to chase their space dreams!
